Everybody's Looking for Some Samples

I'll never be bored of looking for samples. Two other samples of French music by American producers, found on the great sampleur-samplé blog.

Jacques Brel, a master of French music, sampled but the very good crew Onyx on one of their best single. The first 10 seconds of the sampled song, Vieillir, really sound like hip-hop.

Jacques Brel - Vieillir (1977)

Onyx - Shut'Em Down (1998)

Johnny Hallyday is the top seller in France of all time with 60 millions records sold! (the Beatles only sold 18 milions). FT is an underground crew from New York. Not that strange if you know that FT is produced by Get Large... who is French!

Johnny Hallyday / Le Ghetto (1976)

F.T. / The World Iz A Ghetto (2005)

about mistral gagnant: i have to really consider making a
retrospective about renaud...

about sampling: akon sampled a song from johnny hallyday (la nuit i think) for his own song "so lonely". and the funniest is that this song is a cover of an american song of the 50s or the 60s... :-)

I'll publish your post about Renaud whenever you want. I've discoverd the sample of Hallyday a few days ago, I was also very surprised!

Holy shit, i didn't see the Hallyday one ! And that's a Get Large production... then i'm not surprised !

They've already sampled a french singer : Mike Brant / Dans la lumière -> Havoc / Live it up.

And of course, they are frenchies :). I am pretty sure they love sampling french variété, and laugh about it...

About Akon, i think he sampled the american song (Bobby Vinton / Mr Lonely), not Johnny's cover...

According to Du-bruit, it's the sample of Johnny (http://www.du-bruit.com/?page=samples&artiste=johnny_hallyday) but when I listen to it, I think you're right and it's Bobby Vinton who've been sampled.

On du bruit, there is also this one : Poor Righteous Teachers ft. Junior Reid - Dreadful Day / Johnny Hallyday - le pénitencier.

There are also some of Reggiani, and Balavoine! Too much!
